Our measures
Reducing carbon emissions

The climate is changing at a pace that demands action. As an organisation with global reach, DHL wants to make a positive contribution. We are therefore committed to reducing our carbon emissions, for example by BREEAM certified buildings and using electric vans, e-trucks or electric (cargo) bikes.

Smart delivery network

Our CityHubs are all located on the outskirts of urban areas. Thanks to this dense network, we’re always close to recipients and can reduce the number of miles driven for deliveries. This is enabling us to electrify our fleet at a rapid pace. We’re also expanding the network and building 26 new hubs according to the BREEAM sustainability standards. We’re also encouraging our ServicePartners to become more sustainable – after all, joining forces is the best way to achieve impact!

BREEAM-certified sites

At DHL eCommerce, we care about the environment and take various measures to reduce our carbon emissions. That is why our new sites are gas-free and we generate energy using solar panels. Charging stations power our vehicles. We are making the existing sites more sustainable by using LED lighting, and insect hotels provide homes for little friends. We try to think of everyone.

Reducing CO2 emissions

At DHL eCommerce, we are taking measures to become more sustainable. Almost all our delivery vehicles run on electricity or HVO100, or Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil. This is a sustainable fossil-free fuel, produced from waste, residual oils and fats. We also drive e-trucks and electric (delivery) bikes. In this way, we reduce our CO2 emissions from shop to recipient.

Customer-Specific CO2 Reduction with GoGreen Plus

* In the animation video, we indicate that HVO100 provides a direct CO2 reduction of 85%. This percentage takes into account the total emissions of our company, including emissions from our buildings. Although HVO100 enables a 90% reduction compared to conventional diesel, we communicate 85% to transparently reflect the overall impact of GoGreen Plus.
