Since a few weeks, every package that DHL delivers in Breda and its surroundings (from Prinsenbeek, Teteringen to Rijsbergen) comes from the climate-neutral CityHub located on Spinveld on the city's west side. The official opening took place in the presence of local entrepreneurs, municipality and DHL employees. Carla Kranenborg - van Eerd, alderman for the economy and accessibility: "Our residents get their packages delivered to their homes from this climate neutral hub with electric cars. That contributes to a more pleasant city, because there are fewer CO2 emissions. And at the same time, this is a nice step forward towards a more sustainable logistics sector."
The DHL CityHub is the fourth climate neutral site for the last mile that DHL is opening in the Netherlands. CityHub Breda is part of an extensive 350 million euro investment program in which 27 CityHubs in a network of 140 branches will be built completely new and to the highest sustainability standard (BREEAM Outstanding). The CityHub will be gasless and equipped with solar panels used to charge the electric delivery vehicles. The CityHub employs over 100 people, 40 of whom sort parcels to local zip codes. From the CityHub, over 60 delivery drivers drive daily routes along households, stores and businesses around Breda. Later this year, similar CityHubs will open in Nijmegen and Tilburg. In Almere, Zoetermeer and in Sittard-Geleen, DHL opened a similar CityHub before the summer. The remaining 21 will follow in 2023 and 2024. By the end of this year, DHL eCommerce's entire last mile in the Netherlands will be fossil free, either by electric transport or by using HVO-100 diesel.
The DHL CityHub has a service point where packages can be picked up and dropped off. Also, the CityHub is always looking for enthusiastic delivery drivers with driving license who would like to work a few hours per week.
