Prevent dog bite incidents during deliveries

Safety first

Dogs are often loving family members, but unfamiliar visitors at the door can cause stress. Every year, more than a hundred DHL couriers are injured by dog bites. Together, we want to prevent that.

What can you do as a dog owner?

Houd de hond op afstand

Keep your dog at a distance

Don’t let your dog walk to the front door with you. Close a door or use a stair gate.

Afgesproken plek

Choose a safe delivery location

Prefer not to have deliveries at the door? Use the My DHL app to select an Agreed Place that’s not accessible to your dog, or choose a DHL ServicePoint or Locker.

Brievenbus met sticker

Use a safe mailbox

Install a flap or inner box, and put up a warning sticker.

Waarschuwingsbordje hond

Put up a warning sign

This lets the courier know that a dog is present.

Why this matters

A dog bite incident affects both the courier and you. In addition to physical or psychological harm, there may be legal, financial, or emotional consequences. In unsafe situations, DHL may even choose to stop delivering to a particular address.

Safe together

At DHL, we train our couriers to work safely, but we also need your help. Keep your dog under control, prevent direct contact, and choose an alternative delivery option if necessary. This way, we keep things pleasant and safe for everyone.
